Information about Shumen

The town of Shumen is located in central north-eastern Bulgaria. Shumen comprises an area of 630km2 and is distinguished by a rich historic and cultural heritage which is of paramount importance for the ongoing development of cultural tourism in the area. Property purchasers here enjoy a rich variety of terrain consisting of hills, plateaux, plains and many rivers, while the town, with all its modern facilities, lies in a valley in the eastern foothills of the Shumen limestone plateau.

A busy university town, Shumen offers property purchasers a truly Bulgarian experience, along with a cultural and historical interest, while Shumen is also home to the first Bulgarian theatres and orchestras. Shumen has a thriving industrial life including tobacco processing, canning and brewing, furniture making, and the manufacture of enamel ware and well as a widely acclaimed local beer. Real estate here offers the opportunity to purchase apartments, houses and plots at low prices, with great potential for returns on investment.

While the town is firmly on the tourist map and also boasts a thriving industrial profile, Shumen real estate investments can offer a promising residential and tourist rental market.

Since its founding, 3200 years ago, the region has been inhabited by Thracians, Romans, Byzantines, Ottomans, and Bulgarians. Their temples and traditions now merge into a colorful intriguing mixture. Two of the national sanctuaries– the ancient capitals Pliska and Preslaw - are also located here. Now the town has cultural institutes of national importance, two universities – the Shumen University “Episcop Konstantin Preslavski” and the Higher Military School of artillery and air defence “Panaiot Volov”, also many primary and secondary schools, a few local media.
